f o o d 4 t h o u g h t : c l a s s i c s ...

Fatz and I recently had a conversation about "Fads" in the sneaker game like the current "Boat Shoes" trend (yes I know I copped a pair too). What makes a shoe stand the test of time and allow you to carry it for generations? We asked ourselves, what shoe is such a classic that no matter your gender, sex or race you can still pull off regardless of what age you are. Which shoes do you find cool at 16 and still have the ability to rock when you're 50 without looking like a complete tool?

Here's our list:

1. Air Jordan 1
2. Adidas Stan Smiths/Rod Lavers/Gazelles
3. Converse Chuck Taylors

There is one common trait that these shoes all share; they're design is simple. The general design of these shoes are all rather slim and minimalistic in nature. Although these designs are generally simple, this does not take away from the style they all have. Slim build and minimal colours allow the show to stand the test of time and deviate from other shoes that have a bulky design or crazy features. Although most of these shoes have been released in a plethora of colourways, its the classic colourways that make these shoes staples in your wardrobe.

So whether you're a 16 year old skateboarder from L.A. or a 50 year old father of 2 from Japan, be sure that any of these shoes will be safe within your inner circles while giving you the "hip" factor.

What are YOUR thoughts? Leave us a comment and share some of your classics ideas!

t h e c h a l l e n g e - u p d a t e (p a r t 2)...

It's been a while since my last update on "The Challenge" and I know I've been getting some slack from some ppl bout the loophole i had for my recent trip to Asia. If you've been following the blog you already know I set a challenge to myself to limit the amount of kicks I'll be consuming this year. Here's an update to my list with some changes I made, peep the list and share YOUR thoughts on the updates...

1. Adidas ZX Boat - "Yoda" (Adidas)
2. Air Jordan Slam Dunk Pack - AJ3 & AJ2 (Jordan Brand) ~ "Rumoured Release"
3. Air Jordan XI Retro - "Concords" (Jordan Brand) ~ "Rumoured Release"
4.
Air Jordan VI Retro - "White\Varsity-Red" (Jordan Brand)
5. Nike Foamposites "Eggplants" (Nike Basketball)
6.

You'll notice that a few changes were made and a few things were removed from the list as a result of my trip to Asia (Air Jordan VI Motorsports and Air Max 95 Neons). I took out the Kobe V "All Stars" cause after seeing them in person I wasn't overly impressed. Although they are decent, I didn't consider them to be "6" worthy and as a result passed on them. With the confirmation of the "Eggplant" Foamposites dropping next month, I've added them onto the list because who can resist an icy pair of "Eggplants"?

Another thing you will notice on this list is an open slot... It's only February and a bunch of kicks are rumoured to drop during within the year so I'm keeping this slot open but as of right now there are a few likely candidates for this spot; AJ3 CDP, Adidas Original Fortitude Mids (Grey/Orange), AJ1 Silver Anniversary Edition (I only want the briefcase!) and even a pair of AF1 Highs (White/Grey). Although I haven't decided on what to cop I already know this is going to be a VERY tough year...

*SIGH*

Keep it on lock with us here @ e n t e r s p a c e... as we'll be unveiling some of our gems from our personal collections in the next couple of months.

F U F i n i s h L i n e...

Being in the nasty north, we weren't blessed with the AJ6 Motorsports. However, word dropped earlier in the week that Finish Line would have them online and only a few select stores would be carrying them. Rumour was only 5000 were being made available...talk about quick strike. One of my boys just moved back from the US so he still has his credit card and his fam lives there so we could ship there too. Things were falling into place. I had his credit card and shipping info in a note pad, opened up for easy copy-and-pasting.

Prior to the Midnight EST release time, the Finish Line page said "this product is currently not available". So at 11:55 PM, we started refreshing the Finish Line site every second eagerly anticipating the release. I was at my house, and my boy was at his. We figured we'd have a better shot if we both tried to cop em. At 11:59 PM, my palms were sweaty. Midnight, and still "this product is currently not available". 12:05 AM..."this product is currently not available". 12:10 AM, 12:15 AM...nothing. Then FINALLY, at 12:17 AM there they were. I quickly picked size 11, selected 2 pairs and proceeded to check out. Filled in the shipping info, billing info and credit card info. Hit "Process Order" and then got the worst fucking message...some shit about the credit card not being authorized!! Checked with my boy and he was getting the same message. So then we thought maybe it's because we're both trying with the same info. So then he tried...nothing. I tried with my Canadian credit card...nothing. We called up two friends who both live in the US and got their credit card info. Tried both of those...nothing. All the while, the Finish Line site was slow as shit. Sometimes not responding for minutes on end, and getting the above screen message. We tried calling the customer service line, and of course it was closed.

At the end of the day, we didn't get anything, except a broken heart. Sometimes the shoe game can be kind to you, and sometimes she can be a bitch!

Ever since I started buying shoes, I've always had the same problem: how/where do I store them? Before getting hardcore into Nike, I use to buy a lot of Vans. I wouldn't keep the box so I wasn't really stacking them in the traditional way. To solve that issue, I bought those over-the-door shoe racks. I actually bought two of them, one for my slip ons, and another for my dressier shoes. These racks actually work really well for slim (width wise) shoes and provide a better visual as you can see everything at once. Moving to present day, I still have those shoe racks, but I'm rarely buying slip ons. The problem that I face today is the same as before, but with different shoes: how/where do I store them?

Learning from my previous mistake, and like most sneakerheads these days, I now keep the box. This allows me to conveniently stack all my new sneakers in a some what manageable fashion. However, this method is not without flaw. (1) Like with Like. If you are like me, whenever I get a new pair, I just put the box at the top of the lowest stack. There was absolutely no design to each stack. (2) Weight Distribution. You cannot stack all your heavy shoes at the top of the stack, otherwise the boxes near the bottom will deform due to the weight pressure. (3) Last In-First Out. When I'm done wearing my shoes for the day and put them back in the box, I put the box on the top of the stack and not necessarily back from where I got it. I also have a tendency to wear what is on the top of my stack. This is likely all due to laziness on my part.

Recently, I have completely overhauled my entire operation. That's right, I've re-stacked. To solve some of the above issues, I've put all of my similar shoes together. Jordans, AM1s, AM90s, Other Nikes, and Others. The "Other" stack includes my Alifes, Lindebergs, Fred Perry's, etc.
I was going to put my Adidas' in the Other stack, but then that stack would have been too high, so I just evenly distributed them over three stacks. To address the weight distribution issues, I've ensured to put the bigger and heavier boxes near the bottom of each stack. I've also angled every other both at about 45 degrees. This allows the weight to be distributed over the center of each box (at least that is my intention). The third and final issue cannot really be addressed by re-stacking. It's more of a personal thing. I have to make a conscious effort to put each shoe back from where they were in the stack.

Hit us with some feedback and let us know how you stack (or dont stack) your kicks.

What have I gotten myself into?

To most people, restricting your sneaker consumption wouldn't seem that difficult. However, if you're one of those individuals who love sneakers, you'll surely understand my situation. With the current rumour mill and the looming Jordan Brand releases slated for the 25th anniversary, here are my (tentative...) 6.

Peep the list and share YOUR thoughts.

1. Adidas ZX Boat - "Yoda" (Adidas)
2. Air Jordan Slam Dunk Pack - AJ3 & AJ3 (Jordan Brand) ~ "Rumoured Release"
3. Air Jordan XI Retro - "Concords" (Jordan Brand) ~ "Rumoured Release"
4. Zoom Kobe V - "All Stars" (Nike)
5. Air Jordan VI Retro - "Motorsports" (Jordan Brand)
6. Air Jordan VI Retro - "White\Varsity-Red" (Jordan Brand)

Now peep the list that will make me pay the penalty if THEY do release this year:

1. Air Jordan IV Retro - "White\Black (Cement)" ~ "Rumoured Release"
2. Nike Air Max 95 - "Neons"
3. Zoom Lebron VII - "Dunkmans"

You may be asking yourself why doesn't these lists contain the Air Jordan VI Retro (Black\Varsity-Red) release slated for this Saturday? Cause I copped them back in December!

t h e c h a l l e n g e ...

To those who are close to me or those who are with me on the reg, you know that I love a fresh pair of kicks...

In an effort to help myself cut down on my sneaker consumption, I've created a challenge for myself. 6 kicks all year long starting 01/01/10, any additional purchases after the first 6 pairs will cost me a penalty of an additional 100CAD per pair... With this year being Jordan's 25th Anniversary and me being a huge Jordanhead, it's crazy I know!

I do have a buffer period during my trip to sneaker heaven, Tokyo. But don't worry although I can cop without penalty during this trip you all know that things are never cheaper in Japan lol

Follow the journey and peep your thoughts on my final tally for the year!

c a l i : i n t ro...

Greetings from the City of Angels and happy holidays!

During my trip to L.A. I was fortunate enough to hit up a few key locations for my retail therapy; Fairfax & Melrose and the House of Hoops in the Beverly Center. If you're into the whole urban clothing scene, you'll know that the Fairfax & Melrose area is the prime location for your shops. On Melrose you'll find the likes of BAPE, Kidrobot, Crooks & Castle and Johnny Cupcakes. On Fairfax you'll find Supreme, Diamond Supply, Flight Club LA and The Hundreds. Wonder why some of these shops haven't hit Tdot? If you've been following the Spacemen and I, you'll know that during this week from the 26th-29th BAPE was holding their Pirate Store where you would have the opportunity to by previous season wear for 50%-70% off. The store was insane as usual and packed like crazy. I had to wait at least 30 mins to get into the store but it was worth it. Considering I went on the 27th the stuff wasn't too bad and I was still able to cop some gear at a significantly lower price. Something you rarely or ever see @ BAPE.

House of Hoops is Foot Lockers premium flagship store specializing in Nike Basketball attire and sneakers with some exclusives you won't see in other general stores. If you're from Canada then you've probably never had the chance to hit one up unless you've visited one in the States. I hit up the L.A. location which was located in the Beverly Centre and found that the store wasn't too bad. Granted I was in L.A. the general theme of the store was Kobe and Lebron (see Nike's MVP Puppets series)
.

Stay tuned for some more coverage from the City of Angels later this week
.

d o n ' t s l e e p...

No introduction is really needed for this segment.

If you don't already know, today is the official worldwide drop date for the Spacejams (official footwear of the spacemen). Retailing for 209.99CAD (before taxes), if you haven't secured your pair you're probably going to be braving the malls and crowds to try to get a pair. Save yourself the time and give the boys over @ Stolen Riches and Livestock a shout before you give yourself a migraine!

MJ you did it again!

UPDATE 12/23/2009
- So I know most of you have probably been SpaceJammed to death these last couple of days with all the coverage of the release and all but I don't think anyone could deny the fiends fiending for this gem! Like those who haven't secured their pair, you already know that this bad boy is sold out everywhere in the GTA. If you're lucky you may be able to scoop up a pair but don't bet on it...

Here are some pics of the Fatz' Jam's and my earlier retros. Unlike most ppl, I did not grab a pair of the '09 Jams. Why you may ask, cause I wanted a pair of the Baby Jams which I DID cop. Peep the pics, enjoy...

f o r t h e l o v e o f t h e g a m e...

What makes you a "Sneakerhead"?

A "Sneakerhead" can be defined as an individual who loves sneakers. This is someone who purchases large quantities of sneakers and will do everything in their ability to get a single pair of sneaker no matter what (i.e. campouts). These are the same people who will always look at what sneakers another person is wearing first before they look at the person themselves. This is someone who knows all the sneaker shops in their own city and sneaker shops in other cities! This is also someone who can tell you the exact model of at least five sneakers people are wearing in the mall. Is this someone YOU?

If you've been following the "e n t e r s p a c e..." blog you already know that sneakers are the bread and butter of our blog. The enterspace crew (aka the Spacemen) all share a common affinity for sneakers; maxcak loves J's, Fatz loves Air Maxes and FRZA loves Pumps.

Sneakers hold a special place in my heart because they help evoke memories and emotions from my childhood. If you've been following the Kickstart Monday entries you'll know that sneakers are more than sneakers to me. Through these inanimate objects, they allow me to go back to a time in my childhood. Some of the readers may think that's silly but don't we all treasure things that can evoke these feelings?

For the majority, sneakers are just another article of clothing. However, there are a few select individuals who think they're a bit more than that.

Leave us a comment and let us know what makes YOU a "Sneakerhead"?

@ the ACC checkin out the Jay-Z concert...

As always Hov brings that great energy and never disappoints with a solid set... The Blueprint 3 tour started off with J.Cole opening it up which then led to DC's own Wale... Wale always the crowd pleaser went into the crowd a couple of times during his set to interact with the crowd... After Wale's set, N.E.R.D. hit the stage with their new CDN member Rhea and pumped the crowd up even more... I don't know bout you but the ladies love Pharrell, which was apparent when he brought them all on stage during their performance of "Everybody Nose" and "Beautiful"... Finally, Jay hit the stage and as always the crowd went nuts, he spit a solid set and threw in some crazy classics as well as some new joints off that Blueprint 3 (go out and get that Blueprint 3 if you haven't already)... So I guess you're all wondering but already know that Toronto's golden child Drake also graced the stage with Jay... If you don't already know, I'm a big fan of Drizzy, his flow and wordplay is bananas and Jay agrees with me cause he let Drizzy do his thing for "Successful" on stage during the concert... That's big, remember this is a Jay-Z concert and he let a new artist (without a full length album, can't wait till it comes out) come on stage and do a track that has no affiliation with Jay... Either way can't say nothing bad bout the concert, just as solid as the last time I caught HOV with MJB in concert @ the ACC!

Shouts to my hommie J for the hookup, much respect...

Taken with that BB Bold, yes I know Al, I need a real camera; Blueprint 3 Stage Set

If you don't already know, on November 20th, one of the most iconic shoes of all time will experience their 20th anniversary. If you don't know what I'm talking about and need some hints, its probably Reebok's top selling sneaker line of all time, the Reebok Pump.

In collaboration with 20 global partners worldwide, Reebok has created a special collaboration line featuring the iconic shoe. Local shop Stolen Riches
was fortunate enough to be able to participate in this amazing event and come up with their own limited collabo set to release on November 20th alongside the original Reebok Pump. In an effort to commemorate this special occasion, Reebok X Stolen Riches have set up a contest to allow 30 lucky winners to win the original pump and two tickets to a VIP event hosted by Stolen Riches, Red Bull, Heineken & Reebok. The contest is composed of four challenges; the first being a multiple choice question, the second a scavenger hunt around downtown Toronto for 1/200 hidden USB Keys, the third is a set of questions that need to be answered at Stolen Riches and finally the fourth being another scavenger hunt around Toronto for 1/30 hidden envelopes. The contest ends on the 20th in time for the anniversary so don't sleep on this contest if you love the pumps!

With such a dope concept in collaboration with one of my all time favourite kicks, you already know that I've been attempting the challenges to try to score me some tix and a pair of the kicks... If you're interested in doing this contest, I seriously advise you to start the hunt for those USB keys (hints to the location are provided once you've completed Challenge 1) cause it took me a long time to find my USB Key. I searched high and low and couldn't find the USB key for the life of me, I came pretty close to giving up but like I told my friend Al, I was determined to get a key. If there's a will, there's a way!

The spot I found my key was right outside the Graffiti Shop @ 166 Spadina Ave...
