c a l i : i n t ro...

Greetings from the City of Angels and happy holidays!

During my trip to L.A. I was fortunate enough to hit up a few key locations for my retail therapy; Fairfax & Melrose and the House of Hoops in the Beverly Center. If you're into the whole urban clothing scene, you'll know that the Fairfax & Melrose area is the prime location for your shops. On Melrose you'll find the likes of BAPE, Kidrobot, Crooks & Castle and Johnny Cupcakes. On Fairfax you'll find Supreme, Diamond Supply, Flight Club LA and The Hundreds. Wonder why some of these shops haven't hit Tdot? If you've been following the Spacemen and I, you'll know that during this week from the 26th-29th BAPE was holding their Pirate Store where you would have the opportunity to by previous season wear for 50%-70% off. The store was insane as usual and packed like crazy. I had to wait at least 30 mins to get into the store but it was worth it. Considering I went on the 27th the stuff wasn't too bad and I was still able to cop some gear at a significantly lower price. Something you rarely or ever see @ BAPE.

House of Hoops is Foot Lockers premium flagship store specializing in Nike Basketball attire and sneakers with some exclusives you won't see in other general stores. If you're from Canada then you've probably never had the chance to hit one up unless you've visited one in the States. I hit up the L.A. location which was located in the Beverly Centre and found that the store wasn't too bad. Granted I was in L.A. the general theme of the store was Kobe and Lebron (see Nike's MVP Puppets series)
.

Stay tuned for some more coverage from the City of Angels later this week
.

In this weeks, episode if you will, of kick start Monday's, we bring you the very first Nike Air Max...the Air Max 1 (AM1). The Air Max line have quite a bit of history behind them, dating back to 1987 when the first pair of Nike Air Max dropped - running was changed forever. The Air Max series brings together both style and performance, as well as Nike's air cusioning technology. The shoe gets its name from Nike’s air technology, which is used in all models. The Air technology has been around since 1979, but the Nike Air Max was the first shoe to make this technology visible. The heel area, and for some models even the forefoot or entire sole, is made with see-through plastic, exposing the wonderful Air unit.

Debuting in 1987, the Air Max 1 featured a Visible Air unit with synthetic suede and nylon mesh uppers. It was the visible air unit that propelled this shoe to iconic status. In 1988, Nike updated the AM1s with a leather edition. In 1992, they took some styling cues from their younger cousin, and updated the design of the shoe using the midsole and outsole from the Air Max 90. From 1992 and 1995, all the AM1 releases were in leather, but in 1995, Nike brought back the nylon editions. The last styling change game in 1996, when the swoosh was made smaller.

Like most Nike shoes, the Air Max 1s have been offered in many a colourway and collaborations, including HUF, CLOT, Supreme and my personal favs, DJ Clark Kent and Atmos. I don't have the two latter pairs, so if you have them in a size 11 and looking to get rid of them, holla. Of the over 20+ versions of the Air Max, the Air Max 1s will forever be the originator; often imitated, never duplicated. Nike recently released the OG colourways (see above pic) and while they did sell well, I doubt they are sold out. So hit up your local sneaker shop to cop a pair.

d o n ' t s l e e p...

No introduction is really needed for this segment.

If you don't already know, today is the official worldwide drop date for the Spacejams (official footwear of the spacemen). Retailing for 209.99CAD (before taxes), if you haven't secured your pair you're probably going to be braving the malls and crowds to try to get a pair. Save yourself the time and give the boys over @ Stolen Riches and Livestock a shout before you give yourself a migraine!

MJ you did it again!

UPDATE 12/23/2009
- So I know most of you have probably been SpaceJammed to death these last couple of days with all the coverage of the release and all but I don't think anyone could deny the fiends fiending for this gem! Like those who haven't secured their pair, you already know that this bad boy is sold out everywhere in the GTA. If you're lucky you may be able to scoop up a pair but don't bet on it...

Here are some pics of the Fatz' Jam's and my earlier retros. Unlike most ppl, I did not grab a pair of the '09 Jams. Why you may ask, cause I wanted a pair of the Baby Jams which I DID cop. Peep the pics, enjoy...

w h a t w e r e y o u t h i n k i n g ?

Jordan Brand has always embodied the spirit of the holiday season, giving us gifts of great looking shoes that help you to break necks walking around in the city and to get you the perfect compliment at parties to put you in a jolly mood. The last few years, however; JB has been giving us signals that the only thing they seem to care about is money and commercialism – releasing hack versions of some of our most beloved sneaks under the “fusion” moniker. Air Force Jordan Fusion shoes try to blend the features we love about shoes like Air Jordan IV and Air Jordan XII with Nike Air Force I’s to create abominations like AJ 4 Fusion and the AJ 12 Fusion among many others. This line should be called Air Jordan confusion because that is clearly what has been going on around the design team table.

The latest offering puts the beautiful Air Jordan VIII Aqua on the cutting board to butcher them and insult us with the Air Jordan Fusion 8 Aqua. In the past when you heard “Aquas” in a shoe conversation it was clear that those people were talking about fine specimens. Now you have to be specific to avoid confusing the term with the fusion version. These shoes are enough to make any true player in the shoe game want to wretch. You won’t find these shoes in your favourite boutique or even at your favourite exclusive online retailer. The best place to pick these up will probably be at your local Foot Locker, Champs or (if I had my way) in a dumpster somewhere.

At "e n t e r s p a c e..." we are usually very positive about kicks we choose to write about. “Make sure you pick these up…”, “These are must-cops…”, etc. but this time I feel it is our duty as spacemen to empower you to sit on your hands and avoid picking these up no matter how cheap they are available for.

What is your take on this ugly, ugly shoe?

k i c k s t a r t m o n d a y s: a i r j o r d a n X I I ...

Welcome to this week's installment of Kickstart Mondays, this week we'll be reviewing one of the many iconic sneakers MJ wore while winning his 6 NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls. This week, we'll be focusing on the Air Jordan XII. It is only appropriate for us to discuss the sneaker that started it all, you may be asking yourself what does he mean started it all? The Air Jordan XII was first worn during the 1996-1997 season during the Bulls second NBA title in their second set of three titles.

For those who have a deeper understanding of the brand will know that the Air Jordan XII was the first Air Jordan to be released under Jordan Brand, a sub division of Nike. During 1997, Nike had decided to branch out and market the Jordan line as a separate subsidiary of the company and was the first Air Jordan to not contain the Nike Air/Swoosh anywhere on the shoe. Tinker's original dream to minimize the presence of Nike and the Swoosh was finally realized in this release. The Air Jordan XII was inspired by two different things; the rising sun from Japan and a female's high heel shoe. Both inspirations are evident in the design and subtle accents that can be seen throughout the shoe. What made this shoe memorable was not the design or look of the shoe but rather what MJ did with them on during the playoffs. Titled the "Flu Game", MJ wore the black and varisty red colourway during the playoffs where he put up 36 points to help win the game while suffering the flu. MJ's dedication to the game and his team was so inspirational that he had to be helped off the court by Scottie Pippen because he was so weak. MJ you're the man!

The Air Jordan XII is considered a fan favourite on and off the court. The XII is one of the most comfortable sneakers in the Jordan line and provides incredible ankle support. With the recent retro craze and releases JB has put out for Q4 of 2009 we have been fortunate to see several retros as well as new colourways of this sneaker. This year JB released a special version of the Black/Varsity-Red called the Flu Games. This pair which features the same colour schematic as the original contains a few subtle differences from the original and retros. Say what you will about the recent retros, none can deny the beauty and comfort of this shoe.

If you slept on any of the releases such as the Nubucks, Rising Suns, Flu Games or White/Varsity-Red versions head over to Finishline to cop your pair now. Trust me, you do not want to sleep on these!

If you know me personally then you'll know I'm into BAPE and have been for some time now. Most people aren't feeling BAPE and that's cool cause you're entitled to your own opinion but I'm a BAPE man and will continue to support the brand.

With the recent success from their Pirate Shops Pop-Up shops across the world, BAPE will be opening up their doors stateside with a Pop-up shop in L.A. during the holiday season (Dec 26-29th)...

maxcak will be in L.A. @ that time so if you're in the city and heading to the Pop-Up shop (located @ BAPE's L.A. store) come over and say what's up!

I'll be the dude rocking the 1LoveT.O. shirt in Cali, rep'n TDot...

the company with 3-stripes has been putting out some pretty kicks as of late, including the Star Wars collabo and the Toronto Consortium series. They recently dropped the Highrise which are a hi-top sneaker with an all-white sole. The dual-strap mechanism definitely sets these apart from most hi-top, strap kicks as does the four (White, Black, Red & Gray) clean colourways. Word has it these will drop in January 2010, but if you know anyone in the UK, France, the Netherland and of course Germany, they are available at shop.adidas.com

Based on the above picture, do we really need to go into detail about these? Definitely the most anticipated drop for 2010, the Air Jordan VI Black/Varsity Red will be hitting your local sneaker shop on January 23, 2010. A lot of the talk on the interwebs have been going on about the differences between the 2010 drop and the OG versions, notably the material and colour differences. If you can live with red instead of infrared, a different (cheaper?) type of suede and a black air bubble, then these are a definite cop. Thankfully JB left the clear soles instead of the white that was pictured on the early version.

Will you be lining up for these? Nah, cuz we all pre-ordered at Foot Locker.

I don't know about you but what were you thinking JB? I'm all about finding new and innovative ways to market your products or new colourways but seriously?

And yes they are REAL...

What do YOU think?

f o r t h e l o v e o f t h e g a m e...

What makes you a "Sneakerhead"?

A "Sneakerhead" can be defined as an individual who loves sneakers. This is someone who purchases large quantities of sneakers and will do everything in their ability to get a single pair of sneaker no matter what (i.e. campouts). These are the same people who will always look at what sneakers another person is wearing first before they look at the person themselves. This is someone who knows all the sneaker shops in their own city and sneaker shops in other cities! This is also someone who can tell you the exact model of at least five sneakers people are wearing in the mall. Is this someone YOU?

If you've been following the "e n t e r s p a c e..." blog you already know that sneakers are the bread and butter of our blog. The enterspace crew (aka the Spacemen) all share a common affinity for sneakers; maxcak loves J's, Fatz loves Air Maxes and FRZA loves Pumps.

Sneakers hold a special place in my heart because they help evoke memories and emotions from my childhood. If you've been following the Kickstart Monday entries you'll know that sneakers are more than sneakers to me. Through these inanimate objects, they allow me to go back to a time in my childhood. Some of the readers may think that's silly but don't we all treasure things that can evoke these feelings?

For the majority, sneakers are just another article of clothing. However, there are a few select individuals who think they're a bit more than that.

Leave us a comment and let us know what makes YOU a "Sneakerhead"?

1 Love T.O. "Pop-Up" Shop - 12/16/2009

Peep the 1LoveT.O. Pop-Up shop opening up tomorrow for a one day ONLY event.

Pop Up Shop/Night Market is located @ “Nyood” (1096 Queen St. West, 2nd Floor)

It's pretty hard to describe what 1LoveT.O. is, but to some, it's merely a website featuring things goin on in Toronto. However, if you've paid attention to the grass roots/underground movement this site has created you'll notice that its more than just a website but rather a lifestyle... I've had the pleasure of meeting one of the masterminds behind the site and I can truly say that 1LoveT.O. has mad love for T.O.

Cop a tee and show your love for the city that's the coldest...

Much thanks to Fez from What'sFresh for the heads up on another deal for the Jordanheads out there this holiday season.

VMV Inc. currently has the Air Jordan 6 Rings "Concords" on sale for 99.99 USD. Although many people have shown some hate towards the recent bombardment of Jordan fusions, no one can deny the colourway of these kicks. The AJ 6Rings feature a plethora of features from various Air Jordans, MJ wore while winning his 6 NBA titles.

Say what you will bout these kicks but we're still seeing some players rock these on the court this season.

Will YOU be coppin?

Big ups to Fez on the link!

Mentioned in some of our earlier posts, Jordan Brand will be celebrating their 25th anniversary during 2010 and as many of you may have already seen on other blogs, 5 anniversary packs are rumoured to be releasing to celebrate their "Silver" anniversary!

One of the more anticipated releases scheduled to drop are the AJ XI's which feature a predominately white leather upper, deviating from the traditional nylon upper found on all other AJ XI releases. Another key differences also include the absence of the Jumpman on the ankle area of the upper.

If you've got the extra cash and want to cop them prior to the drop, cop them now over @ VMV Inc. who has a full size run.

Will YOU be coppin?

You know there ain't no other shop that puts down a display as hard as the boys over at Stolen Riches! In anticipation for the upcoming release of the "Space Jams", Stolen Riches has put up a serious display of the fan favourite AJ XI. Peep the crazy display over @ the Stolen Riches Blog.

If you haven't already secured your pair of "Space Jams" like FRZA said earlier today give the boys a shout over @ Stolen Riches to inquire bout the drop scheduled for the 23rd. Christmas is coming early!

k i c k s t a r t m o n d a y s: Hello it’s the Martian...

It is December 14th and we are almost a mere week away from the re-release of one of this year’s most anticipated shoe drops. If the excerpt above from Drake’s “Forever” (featuring Yeezy, Weezy and Marshall) didn’t already make it obvious, please know that we are talking about the Air Jordan XI Space Jams.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield the original XI’s offered a Nylon upper meant to be reminiscent of a hiker’s backpack. A carbon fiber plate running through the sole was incorporated to provide rigidity and support. Performance innovations aside, the patent leather mid and toe box seemed included just to make the shoes pop. The patent however, offered a light weight alternative to genuine and tended not to stretch even in the face of quick changes in direction needed to blow past defenders.

Jordan wore the XI’s during the 1995-96 season – a record year where the Bulls posted the best regular season in NBA history (72-10) before defeating the Sonics in the finals. Jordan himself won a record fourth Finals MVP award and was also named regular season and all-star game MVP.

Air Jordan XI’s in the black, white and royal blue colourway first showed up on the big screen in the 1996 Warner Bros. movie, “Space Jam”. Michael wore the shoes to help Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tune characters win their freedom in an intergalactic basketball game against the alien Monstars. The shoes were eventually released in December 2000 under the “Space Jam” name to commemorate the film. Nine years later Jordan Brand is re-releasing the shoe with a small set of deviations from the original (see "Don't Sleep" from November 27th, 2009) along with a few extras in the box to sweeten the deal. If you put down the almost $250.00 (total – CAD) you should be thoroughly impressed with the entire package even though rumours warn that the actual shoe construction quality is somewhat below that of its predecessor.

I put my preorder in a few months ago and fear if you haven’t already done the same you may be S.O.L. The drop date has been reset many times from the original November 27th date but it looks like the fat cats at JB have finally settled on December 23rd. Thanks to Jordan Brand we have one more reason to call the last half of December the most wonderful time of the year…

Adidas is up to it's old tricks again collaborating with the Star Wars franchise to release yet another sneaker line inspired by the infamous series. Once again these kicks will be released in a mock toy packaging (i.e. action figure wrap) and will be available in most Adidas stores across the country.

Word is the Queen Street location will be receiving a shipment of this line as well so make sure you go and check them out when they release next year. My personal fav of the line are the "Yoda" boat shoes...

k i c k s t a r t m o n d a y s: n i k e a i r p e n n y I I ...

During this week's session of Kickstart Mondays, we feature another iconic shoe from Nike's Golden Era of the 90's. This week, we'll be showcasing the beloved Nike Air Penny II which was originally released back in 1996 and sported by one of the greatest guards to play the game (* before his injuries of course), "Penny" Hardaway.

The Nike Air Penny II is probably one of the most iconic/memorable shoe's Penny wore while he played for the Magic during the 90's. This sneaker which featured a foam like midsole and Zoom Air technology in the heal was one the best basketball sneakers (style wise) to be released by Nike. The Nike Air Penny II was released during the height of Penny's career and was further elevated into sneaker history when Nike decided to adopt a similar marketing campaign as one of their other popular basketball lines. Most people may not remember the days that Penny donned the Magic jersey but anyone who has an affinity for sneakers will remember the memorable commercials Nike released for this product line. At the time the sneakers were marketed with the voice of an up and coming comedian by the name of Chris Rock serving as Penny's counterpart named Lil'Penny. Very similar to the Mike and Spike campaigns, the Penny and Rock duo put out some memorable commercials which added to the success of the sneakers. Not to sell the sneakers short but the ad campaigns were the things that made the Nike Air Penny II the sneaker to have on the court.

To the joy of many sneakerheads who couldn't get a pair when they first released, Nike blessed us with a plethora of retros during 2008 and 2009 of the Nike Air Penny II. True to the OG's released back in 1996, Nike released all three OG colourways (the Atlantics were a Ltd. Quickstrike) and four additional colourways (Heats, Coppers, Triple Blacks and Black/Silver). As a common trend to many of these posts, I wasn't able to cop a pair when they first released but I was fortunate to grab a pair for a steal when the retros dropped.

Can anyone remember the Lil'Penny and Tyra commercials? I do!

The boys over at Complex recently complied another list of the top 50 dunks in the NBA.

I'm a huge fan of dunks being that I'm an Asian kid w/ absolutely no hops. I know even the ppl who don't understand the game of basketball can appreciate a good dunk or two. Take a look at their list
here and see if you agree.

I know one of the top dunks isn't really a dunk from the NBA but I'm gonna have to agree with the guys @ Complex. How can you say it doesn't deserve to be number 1? I'm from T.O. and I have to say that dunk is just straight up nasty!

If you're a child of hip hop then you'll understand why the title to this post is appropriate...

Rumours have been going around speculating one of the biggest fights in the world of Boxing since the Tyson vs Holyfield bout. Promoters have been working hard to get the mega fight between Floyd "Pretty Boy" Mayweather, aka "Money" Meaweather, and Manny "The Pacman" Pacquiao. Rumours speculate a fight as early as March 2010 which if it does come into fruition will be one of the largest PPV events in history.

If you know me, I'm a bit torn considering I'm a big fan of both fighters. "Pacman" who is so humble and represents the underdog, is by far the greatest Asian boxer ever to lace up a pair of boots. "Money" Mayweather IS the greatest pound-for-pound fighter to ever step into the ring (tell me who has had a better career?) and his confidence (or cockiness) is unparalleled.

My money's on "Money" Mayweather although I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the "Pacman" come out with the victory. Kinda reminds me when the BJ Penn and GSP bout went down, you like both fighters and really don't know who you should root for...

Who YOU got if this bout goes down?
