In this edition of KSM we feature one of the all time greatest sneakers to ever be created, the Air Jordan IV. Considered by many to be the BEST Air Jordan in the series, Tinker once again created another iconic shoe to be worn by the greatest of all time. The Air Jordan IV which was first released back in 1989 sported mesh like panels on the upper and unique eyelets which would allow ballers to lace them up in unique fashion. The sneaker featured a similar design to that of the AJ III but was intended to be used more than admired.

The true beauty of these sneakers are not the fact that they're a great sneaker to play basketball in but rather they are a shoe that truly transcends past the hardwood. These are probably one of the nicest looking casual shoes to ever be worn. Seen on many celebs from Mos Def to the Game, these sneakers look good no matter what you pair them up with. These shoes can also thank Spike for their popularity as they were featured in Spike's infamous movie, Do The Right Thing and a slew of Mars Ads. Most recently the most popular colourway of this model, the BREDs were re-released with the Air Jordan XIX in the Jordan Collezione pack.

To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of these sneakers initially. I'm more of an Air Jordan III fan but I cannot deny the beauty of these sneakers when you see them in person. I got my first pair of these a couple years back when I got a pair of the "Mars" edition AJ IV. I still rock them on the regular but if you remember my trip to
Tokyo a month ago, I picked up a DS pair of the '99 retros which still feature the Nike Air on the back. If you don't have a pair of these bad boys you really need to step your game up. These are a staple in any sneakerhead's collection and if you got 330USD to spare, you can still get your pair @ PYS.

Trust me on this, DON'T sleep on these!

Yesterday marked a great day for Jordanheads as we saw the re-release of five pairs, YES FIVE PAIRS of retro J's. Yesterday saw the re-release of two Air Jordan 1 KO's which have not seen the light since their original release back in 1985. JB released the White/Black-Varsity Red and White/Varsity Red colourways of this iconic shoe.

In addition to the AJKO's which released, JB also released three pairs of J's; AJ III, AJ IV and AJ IX. These three pairs were part of this year's 25th Anniversary collection which all sport the White and Silver colourways. Did you hit up your local shops yesterday to cop any of these five?

If you didn't get a chance to cop any of them and still want to pick up a pair in the Toronto area, visit
Livestock or Capsule to have them hook you up!

We have seen a flurry of new colourways of some classic silhouettes drop lately from all of the major brands in light of the upcoming World Cup in June. Adidas released the Gazelle's in a few colourways, representing some of the major footy nations hoping to do well this year. Reebok released the Classics in a Brazil and England colourway earlier this year. Nike has been fairly quiet on this front, with the exception of the True Colours QS. However, in true Nike tradition, with the World Cup quickly approaching, we have seen a slew of new Nike colourways grace the feet of some of the best footy players in the world, including Wayne Rooney, Christiano Ronaldo, and the like. Peep the video below to check out some of the new colourways for the Laser IIIs, CTR 360s, Superfly IIs and Tiemp Legends.

Ty from Chi-town's Leaders1354 dropped some images of a rare Zoom Lebron VII from the "Heroes Pack" which are not expected to be released to the general public. This edition of the Zoom Lebron are inspired by LBJ's hero, MJ himself and his infamous AJ XI (BREDs). This pair features similar colour placement as the BRED XI's; sporting patent leather, red translucent sole (w/imprints of the sole from the XI's) and the Jordan Jumpman tongue tag (w/ a LBJ twist).

The Zoom Lebron VII's are already a fan favourite and probably considered the BEST Zoom Lebron by many. Ever since I got my first pair of the Lebron VII's way back last year I've been sold. These kicks are so sick design and performance wise you really can't go wrong copping a pair. I'm really disappointed these bad boys won't be seeing a release cause they would sell like hot cakes and probably will on the 'bay.

Peep more images of these kicks over @

Welcome to this week's edition of KSM, this week we feature the Nike Cortez.

The Nike Cortez was one of the company's first designs back in 1966 and eventually named the "Cortez" in 1968. To many people the Nike Cortez is commonly associated with Nike's "Casual" shoe line but this couldn't be further from its roots. The legend, Bill Bowerman first came up with the design of the "Cortez" back in 1966 as one of Nike's first runners. The shoe which featured a ripstop nylon upper and jagged edged sole was simple and efficient. The shoe itself may not appear to be very revolutionary today but back in 1968 where all shoes were relatively flat, this shoe was definitely groundbreaking and iconic.

In today's marketplace this shoe is no longer seen on the track but seen commonly on the streets as a staple in L.A.'s East Side. Very similar to one of it's main competitors, Converse's Chuck Taylors, both shoes no longer carry that allure as a performance shoe but rather as fashion shoe for casual wear.

Back in the mid 90's, the Cortez experienced a resurgence in the North American market. The shoe was reintroduced into the market and had some help from Hollywood when it was featured as the shoe of choice for the Academy Awarded film, Forrest Gump. I can still remember very vividly that these were the shoe to rock at the time. The shoe was also a fan favourite because of the price point that they were being offered at. When you can cop a shoe for just under 100 CAD with the style that it has, how can you really go wrong? For this, we salute you Mr. Bowerman!

f o o d 4 t h o u g h t: w h e r e 'd t h e y g o???

If you're a local TDot sneakerhead you've probably noticed a recent phenomenon in our sneaker scene, the disappearance of a few staples!

In the last few months a number of prominent sneaker stores in the sneaker community of Toronto have disappeared. Stores such as North Trooper and GDFT (all locations in Canada) have disappeared without real warning unless you were in the know. Stolen Riches on Queen West (just west of Bathurst) recently closed it's doors for some renovations which has really left us with a few shops in the heart of our city. To get your fix on we've been left with really a few locations to grab some gems like Capsule, Livestock and Adrift. If you're ambitious and want to travel in the burbs of the city we still have spots like The Vault and Solestop to meet your needs.

The real question that many are probably thinking is whether or not the shoe game in Toronto starting to die down. The Canadian market for sneakers is already pretty weak, with the reduction of these local shops are we going to be losing out on even more gems? Are we going to be resorted back to depending on the buyers from large corporations to get us heat?

Fatz and I recently had a conversation about "Fads" in the sneaker game like the current "Boat Shoes" trend (yes I know I copped a pair too). What makes a shoe stand the test of time and allow you to carry it for generations? We asked ourselves, what shoe is such a classic that no matter your gender, sex or race you can still pull off regardless of what age you are. Which shoes do you find cool at 16 and still have the ability to rock when you're 50 without looking like a complete tool?

Here's our list:

1. Air Jordan 1
2. Adidas Stan Smiths/Rod Lavers/Gazelles
3. Converse Chuck Taylors

There is one common trait that these shoes all share; they're design is simple. The general design of these shoes are all rather slim and minimalistic in nature. Although these designs are generally simple, this does not take away from the style they all have. Slim build and minimal colours allow the show to stand the test of time and deviate from other shoes that have a bulky design or crazy features. Although most of these shoes have been released in a plethora of colourways, its the classic colourways that make these shoes staples in your wardrobe.

So whether you're a 16 year old skateboarder from L.A. or a 50 year old father of 2 from Japan, be sure that any of these shoes will be safe within your inner circles while giving you the "hip" factor.

What are YOUR thoughts? Leave us a comment and share some of your classics ideas!

k i c k s t a r t m o n d a y s: a i r j o r d a n X I I I

Welcome back to this week's edition of KickStart Mondays! Its been a while since our last KSM post but we've returned this week with a feature on the Air Jordan XIII.

The Air Jordan XIII was first released back in '98 when the Bulls were still on top of the NBA during their second 3peat. The Air Jordan XIII which was inspired by the black panther, the nickname given to MJ by his friends in the NBA. The Air Jordan XIII which features a podular outsole is considered one of the more well built and comfortable sneakers in the line. The upper features paneling which is meant to resemble the paw of the panther. With all the various colourways, we've seen materials like cloth w/ 3M, pebbling as well as traditional leather used in these panels. Another key trait of this iconic shoe is the heal tab area which is predominately adorned by a suede like material. The AJ XIII is considered to many to be one of the best basketball sneakers in the line and also quite memorable. If there is one defining feature of this shoe it will have to be the hologram found on the ankle area of the shoe, designed to resemble the eye of the panther! Jordan brand has dropped some rumours that this model will experience a retro this year with two classic colourways. The AJ XIII was definitely a success and a great second shoe to be released under the Jordan Brand umbrella.

I personally have very fond memories of this AJ XIII as it was released during the same time as the Air Penny II. I still remember that my buddy in high school would rock these joints, switching between these and the Pennys. Same trend as always, I loved them but couldn't afford them back in the day but I was fortunate to score a pair a couple years back with the Flint (Team Reds). Many ppl don't like any J's past XI but these joints are definitely sick! I would consider them to be in my top 10 sneakers of all time and you should definitely cop these when and if they release again this year.
Don't sleep on these bad boys, they really are a classic!

a i r j o r d a n XIII r e t r o s....

We know the boys over at JB love to play Ol' Saint Nic during the holiday season and murder our wallets, case in point last year's Spacejam frenzy and XI/XII CDP the year earlier. This year will be no different with the 25th Anniversary upon us...

JB has already confirmed releases of two AJ XI retros during the holiday season of 2010 with the re release of the Concords and Cool Greys during the months of November and December. Many Jordanheads were excited to hear the release of these other coveted XI's making the Columbias the only outstanding AJ XI (not including lows) to not be retored within these last three years. Most fans are gonna be strapped for cash with all these releases but JB has decided to bless us (or kill us financially) with the recent announcement of the rumoured release of two AJ XIII colourways to hit stores during the same months.

We got word of this rumour a while back from some credible sources back in the Tdot and now we can be more confident that these bad boys will prob drop with other sites like nicekicks and kicksonfire also stating the same thing. If you're like me, you can understand the excitement of seeing some AJ XIII's come back into the market. XIII's haven't been retroed in a long time with the exception of the CDP. This year we will see the potential return of the Flints (French Blue) and the White / Black – True Red – Pearl Grey colourways. The Flints, which are a fan favourite have been retroed since its original release back in '98 but the White / Black – True Red – Pearl Grey colourway has not seen a retro release ever. Very similar to that of the AJ XII Varsity Red's which dropped last year, these will see the first true retro of this classic shoe. If you want to know how they're gonna look, check out some pics of Bibby on the court this season rocking this colourway.

The Air Jordan XIII, features a design inspired by the panther which was a nickname given to MJ by his close friends in the league. The upper features details on the panels where the Flints see a blue clothlike material interlaced with 3M while the White / Black – True Red – Pearl Grey feature an all white leather upper on the panels. The accents on the upper and heal tab area of the Flints feature a grey suede like material whereas the White / Black – True Red – Pearl Grey feature a red suede upper. The defining factor of the XIII is the hologram on the ankle area of the upper which is meant to resemble the panther's eye. This hologram features the Jumpman logo in front the infamous 23.

I'm excited bout the release and hopefully you are too! Will YOU be coppin?

a i r m o r e u p t e m p o , i s e e y o u...

Nike's been recently pushing out a lot of new kicks these last few months in addition to their standard retros.

However thanks to the guys over @ TSG, we've received word that one of my beloved sneakers growing up is due for an upcoming retro. If you've been reading the posts on this blog you already know that I'm a huge fan of the Bulls circa the 90s. Although MJ garnered most of the love on the court and for his kicks, there was one other man who went hard on the court with both his game and kicks. This person would be one of the NBA's top D0 players, Mr. Scottie Pippen himself. One of Scottie's most memorable shoes were the Air More Uptempos which was what he rocked while playing for the Dream Team as well winning one of his 6 rings. If you think you don't know these kicks I'm sure you recognize this unforgetable design, you know the kicks with the "AIR" written in bold letters on the upper.

I wasn't fortunate enough to score a pair while growing up but I won't sleep on these when they release. No official release date has been set but be sure when they do, I'll be adding them to my list!

Will YOU be coppin?

p a c m a n v e r s u s...

I know most ppl have stopped following the hype of boxing since the dream match between two of the best pound for pound fighters fell through last year.

I don't expect most of you to know that the "Pac Man" is fighting this Saturday @ the Dallas Cowboy's new facility. Pacquiao is squaring off against Clottey to defend his WBO Welterweight title.

Do I even need to ask who YOU got?
